The short answer
Journey Psychiatric Care offers psychiatric services in Massachusetts by telehealth: psychiatric evaluation, medication management, psychotherapy, ADHD evaluation and treatment, and care for children and teens. Every visit is with Joseph Lavoie, PMHNP-BC.
One clinician for every part of your care
Joseph is a board-certified psychiatric nurse practitioner, not a psychiatrist. He evaluates, diagnoses, prescribes and provides therapy, so the person who hears your story is the person who treats you.
Most patients start with a psychiatric evaluation. From there, the plan might be medication, therapy, both, or a referral when another kind of care fits better. Everything happens by video from anywhere in Massachusetts. Read more about how telehealth visits work.
Not sure which service you need? Start with the evaluation. It is the front door to everything else, and you will leave knowing which kind of care makes sense for you. The new-patient page lists what to have ready, and the insurance page shows which plans are in-network.

Frequently asked questions
What psychiatric services do you offer?
Psychiatric evaluation, medication management, psychotherapy, ADHD evaluation and treatment, and child and adolescent care. Each one has its own page above with details on what to expect.
Are all services by telehealth?
Yes. Journey Psychiatric Care is a telehealth practice that sees patients anywhere in Massachusetts. The Somerville address is a mailing address, not an office.
Do I need an evaluation before medication or therapy?
Yes. New patients start with a psychiatric evaluation so treatment rests on a clear picture. If you are switching from another prescriber, bring your medication list to that first visit.
Can I get therapy and medication from the same person?
Yes. Joseph provides psychotherapy and medication management, when indicated. You can also keep an outside therapist and see Joseph only for the psychiatric side.
Who will I see at my visits?
Joseph Lavoie, PMHNP-BC, every time. He is a board-certified psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner licensed in Massachusetts.
Do you take insurance?
Journey Psychiatric Care is in-network with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts, Aetna, Cigna and Evernorth, Oscar Health, Oxford, Point32Health and UnitedHealthcare (UHC/UBH). For other plans, the practice provides invoices for out-of-network reimbursement. See insurance details.
Is this emergency care?
No. These are scheduled outpatient visits. If you are in crisis, call or text 988, call 911, or go to the nearest emergency room.
