The short answer
Journey Psychiatric Care is a telehealth psychiatric practice in Somerville, MA, owned and run by Joseph Lavoie, MSN, APRN, PMHNP-BC, a board-certified psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner. Every visit is by secure video, and you see Joseph each time, from your first evaluation through therapy and medication follow-ups.
Why the practice exists
Joseph started Journey Psychiatric Care after years of nursing and clinical work in hospitals, emergency departments and outpatient group practice in Greater Boston. He saw how often people got a quick visit, a prescription and a different face the next time. He wanted a practice where the person who evaluates you is the person who treats you.
So the practice is built around one idea: get the diagnosis right first, then build a plan with you. That plan can include psychotherapy, medication management when it is called for, or both. A prescription is one tool, not the whole plan.
The name means something, too. Mental health is a path that changes over time, and Joseph’s welcome line to every new patient is the same: “It is our privilege to take the next step in your mental health journey with you.”
How care works here
Same clinician every visit. Joseph handles your evaluation, diagnosis, therapy and medication. You never re-tell your story to a stranger.
We explain before we prescribe. A full psychiatric evaluation comes first, and you will know what each option is for.

Telehealth only. Visits run on a secure, HIPAA-compliant platform. You join from home, work or anywhere private in Massachusetts. How telehealth works.
Meet the team
A small practice means you know who you are dealing with. Here is who you will meet, by video, phone or portal message.
Joseph Lavoie, MSN, APRN, PMHNP-BC
Founder and psychiatric nurse practitioner
Joseph is a board-certified psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner. He earned his MSN at Northeastern University and studied at the University of Massachusetts Boston. He is a nurse practitioner, not a physician.
Harley is the practice’s Weimaraner and emotional support dog. He joined the team as a pup and has a talent for reading the room.
His specialties are silent support on hard days and a steady, calm energy. Off duty, he likes long walks, squeaky toys and lobbying for treats.

What we are not
We are not an emergency service. Telehealth cannot respond to a crisis in real time, so if you or someone you love is in danger, call or text 988, call 911, or go to the nearest emergency room. Our Massachusetts crisis resources page lists more options.
We are also not a prescription mill or a same-day medication service. Every plan starts with a real evaluation.
